If you know me, you know I am all about supporting entrepreneurs. So this week, I want to shine a light on a new business that already means a lot to our town.

This is The Tackle Box in Lindstrom, MN. It is a part ice cream, and part dirty soda shop, that is built on 100% heart.

A Dream Decades in the Making

We asked Erin, the owner, how The Tackle Box came to be. She told me it started as a dream of hers over two decades ago. Pinterest Boards, notebooks full of ideas, and a whole lot of prayer finally turned into a real place after the opportunity arose earlier this year.

It is the kind of story Lindstrom locals love to hear. When an idea turned into something real, because someone decided to go for it.

A Few Questions with Erin

Q. How did The Tackle Box get its name?

A. “We wanted to have some sort of a bar, small restaurant, or food trailer that had a fishing theme. The Tackle Box was a perfect fit, as in a tackle box you have all sorts of items, and at The Tackle Box we have all sorts of items.”

Q. What’s your most popular item?

A. “The S’more Shake Up and the South Center Dirty Soda. People love them.”

Q. How do you give back to Chisago Lakes?

A. “We stay involved. We’ve coached teams, volunteered at the church, helped out with Center City Days, and I co-coordinate The Chisago Lakes Ambassador Program. We just try to show up for the community that’s shown up for us.”

Q. What’s your favorite part about running a business in a small town?

A. “The area holds a very special place in hearts. Erin and Taylor are coordinators for The Chisago Lakes Ambassador Organization. Our family has volunteered for numerous community events, at First United Methodist Church, Chamber, Center City Days, coaches for various teams, volunteers leaders for just about anything our kids are apart of.”

Q. Tell me about your punch card system.

A. “It’s simple. Every time you buy something, you get a punch. Ten punches earns you a free 24 oz dirty soda or double scoop of ice cream. It’s just our way of saying thank you.”

Why The Tackle Box Matters to us

What stood out mostly to me, was the atmosphere. The young staff is personable, and makes you feel welcomed. It is obvious that the team doesn’t just sell shakes and sodas, they make locals, families, and even first time visitors feel welcome, and feel like they belong. This is the kind of business that brings a community together and makes them stronger.
